Center Line, Mich., May 6, 2008 - Two-time Formula Drift champion and Team Mopar® driver Samuel Hübinette has captured two victories and a runner-up finish piloting a Dodge Viper on the tricky Road Atlanta drift course. The “Crazy Swede” once again takes the wheel of a Mopar-powered Dodge Viper as he goes for his third win in five years at the Formula Drift Round Two: Feel the Heat on May 10 in Braselton, Ga. A hungry Hübinette returns to Atlanta fresh off a runner-up finish at the season-opening Long Beach event in his NuFormz Racing Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10.
“I’m really looking forward to returning to the Road Atlanta track,” said Hübinette. “The Viper is a very competitive car. It has the optimal wheelbase for drifting, good torque, BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires and its amazing Mopar powerplant. We’re trying to really be on top of it.”
Hübinette added, “I won at the first two Formula D events [in Atlanta] in 2004 and 2005 and took runner-up in 2006. We’ve had really good outcomes there. Every time I’ve had a car running, we’ve been on the podium, so we would like to keep it that way. And it’s always good to come back to the fans in the South. I want to give them the smoke show they deserve.”
Although Hübinette has banked nine career Formula D wins, most of any driver competing in the series, he is aware additional victories won’t come easy considering the increasing talent level in Formula D.
“The level of competition is high,” observed Hübinette. “We’re in the premier professional drifting series, Formula D, so everybody on the team needs to work hard and stay on top of every aspect of the car. The drivers and teams keep getting better and better each year. We have to stay very focused, but we still need to make sure we have a good time, because we all enjoy what we do.”
“It was outstanding to see Samuel back on the podium with Mopar power at Long Beach,” said Rob Richard, Director of Mopar Parts, Sales and Service Marketing, Chrysler LLC. “Atlanta has been a successful venue for the Shaun Carlson-led NuFormz Racing team. Samuel feels very comfortable drifting the Mopar Dodge Viper and that confidence shines through in his drifting performance.”
