Chrysler Foundation Presents $250,000 to the Detroit Zoo to Support Zoo’s Tauber Family Railroad |

Page 1 of 2 Royal Oak, Mich., May 8, 2008 - Today, The Chrysler Foundation presented a check in the amount of $250,000 to the Detroit Zoological Society to continue to support and refurbish the Detroit Zoo’s Tauber Family Railroad. In recognition of the donation, the Zoo unveiled the new name of the main train station as the Chrysler Main Station.
“Chrysler is very proud to play a continuing role for more than half a century in supporting one of the Detroit Zoo’s favorite attractions," Brian Glowiak, Vice President - The Chrysler Foundation, said. "This historic commitment began with our original donation of three trains nearly 60 years ago, followed by recurring donations to upgrade and maintain their operations. We are pleased that future generations will continue to experience this timeless treasure.”

Chrysler LLC has a long history with the Detroit Zoo and its locomotive trains. Walter P. Chrysler began his career working in the railroad business where his passion for engines developed. In 1949, Chrysler Corporation designed, built and donated the first of the diesel-powered trains, named the Walter P. Chrysler, along with two more locomotives in 1950 and 1951.
